Adamawa SDP governorship candidate dies


Barely one month to the governorship election across the country, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has lost its candidate in Adamawa State. Hakila Yerima, a pastor, who won the governorship primaries of the party conducted on December 6, died on January 6.
Confirming the development to PREMIUM TIMES in Yola, the state secretary of the party, John Luka, said the party’s flag bearer took was hospitalized for liver-related illness but could not survive. He said Reverend Yerima had on December 27 written to the party withdrawing his candidacy as the party’s flag bearer because of his failing health. In the letter, Mr. Yerima thanked the party members for the confidence in him, and urged them to look for a different credible candidate. The state secretary said the party has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and that the party was working to replace the candidate.
