EPL Round Up: Chelsea gain advantage again as City slip

Chelsea Football Club now enjoy a two-point gap at the summit of the English Premier League table following their 2-0 win over Newcastle United and Manchester City’s 1-1 draw away to Everton on Saturday. The Blues now have 49 points from 21 games, while City who were previously tied with Chelsea, now have 47 points from the same number of games. Two goals from Oscar and Diego Costa in each half was enough to secure victory for Jose Mourinho’s men even though they obviously struggled to get into any rhythm to beat manager-less Newcastle 2-0 on Saturday at Stamford Bridge. At the Goodison Park, Man City had gone ahead in the 74th minute through Fernadinho but their lead lasted for just four minutes after Steven Naismith got the equaliser for Everton. At other centres, a Mark Noble own goal saved the day for Swansea as they played out a 1-1 draw with West Ham United. Andy Carol had put the visitors in front just before half time, but the hopes of the Hammers picking maximum points away from home evaporated in the 74th minute with Noble’s own goal. There was also joy for relegation-haunted Burnley as they swam out of the unpleasant waters on the back of the 2-1 win over QPR. The victory is just the fourth this season for the EPL new boys. Leicester also secured a lone goal win over Aston Villa but they remain rooted at the base of the EPL standings. Paul Konchesky 45th goal made all the difference for the home team who ended the game with 10-men same as the visitors following red cards for the duo of Matthew James and Ciran Clark. Also, Nigeria’s Victor Anichebe came off the bench and provided the assist for Saido Berahino to give West Brom a crucial 1-0 win over Hull City in one of Saturday’s EPL games. Anichebe was introduced to the game by Coach Tony Pulis in the 73rd minute, and five minutes later, the beast made his presence count as he help set up the England international to slot in what turned out to be the only goal of the game.
