Nigeria Heading Towards Two Or Three Party System — Aliyu

The Governor of Niger state, Dr Muazu Babangida Aliyu, posited yesterday in Minna that the political development in the country has indicated that the nation might be heading for a two party system. He spoke while receiving the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on National Assembly Matters, Hajiya Saudatu Sani at government House council chambers. He stated that the registration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the wooing of the prominent members of the existing political parties across the country has shown that the political development in the country would be healthy for democracy. Aliyu said the nation was moving towards two or three political parties system, was being reinforced by lack of democratic principles in the existing political parties. He said “Nigeria may end up with two or three political parties, parties are merging and this is healthy for democracy”. In this direction, Aliyu advocated the independent candidates be allowed to run in elections because the types of parties in the country are very undemocratic which will make independent candidates to fill the gap already created by the undemocratic postures of the parties.
